FAQs
What can I expect when starting counseling?
Counseling with me will help you to better understand the anxiety and how to best support your child in the treatment process. I work primarily with the school-age child or teen, but parents have an important part in the treatment, too! I like to begin with an initial parent session to gather history and clearly understand things from your perspective. Together with the child's perspective, I can get a more thorough and wholistic understanding of the needs, strengths, and direction for treatment. Parent feedback and guidance is continued throughout the counseling process, while still allowing the child to experience a safe and confidential space to verbalize and work through their own thoughts and feelings.
How long are the sessions? What do they cost?
The first session with the client is 60-75 minutes in length and the fee is $175. Subsequent sessions are 60 minutes in length with a fee of $150.
What insurances do you accept?
I am an in-network provider for Medical Mutual of Ohio, Paramount and Front Path.
How often should I come to counseling?
The frequency of the sessions is determined on an on-going basis. Recommendations are given, but the client makes the decision.
What about out-of-network insurance?
Some insurance plans do cover out of network providers. It is something that you will have to verify with your insurance company, but may allow you more choice in selecting a provider. If your insurance plan has out of network benefits, we can provide the “superbill” which is the invoice that will have the appropriate codes needed for reimbursement. We will not be able to bill the insurance for you. This means that it will require payment at the time of service, then you will be provided the superbill that you can submit to your insurance company. Any reimbursement will then come directly back to you.
What are the pros and con of using insurances?
Insurance provides many people with more affordable counseling services. However, depending upon the plan, deductibles or co-pays are still required before insurance starts to pay. Sometimes, there isn’t a significant financial difference to using insurance. If you choose to use your insurance, know that you will give up confidentiality to your insurance company because they require access to your medical records. There does have to be a diagnosis in order for insurance companies to pay.
What if I have a Health Savings Account?
Counseling services are a qualified medical expense for using your HSA/HFA account for payment.
What if my child or teen doesn’t want to attend counseling, can parents still come for counseling?
Yes, parents can receive support and counseling for parenting concerns. This can make a significant difference for the parents as well as the child. However, know that if using insurance, the child does have to be seen at least once by the clinician.
Do you provide Telehealth sessions?
Yes, I can offer telehealth sessions for those that are physically in the state of Ohio. It is offered through a HIPPA secure platform. I have found it most beneficial to meet at least once in person before beginning telehealth sessions.
What is the No Surprises Act?
At Kids & Families Christian Counseling, we are committed to providing compassionate and professional counseling services to support the mental and emotional well-being of you or your child. In accordance with the No Surprises Act, we want to inform you of your rights as a client or guardian who is not using insurance, to have a clear understanding of the cost for treatment up front. You are entitled to receive a “good faith estimate” prior to the start of any services so that you don’t encounter any surprises or hidden fees. Our pricing and billing practices are transparent. They are clearly stated up front so that there are no surprises or add ons to the stated fee schedule. Length of treatment is something you and the therapist will discuss and recommendations will be made. Know that the decision of whether to continue treatment or terminate services is ultimately, your choice as the client or guardian of a minor client. If you would like a Good-Faith Estimate it is available upon request for those who will not be using private insurance. We’d be happy to assist with insurance but know each individual plan differs in coverage and out of pocket expenses and is the responsibility of the insured.
